Top 10 Ways to Amend the 'Equality Act'
Linda Harvey, Mission America
Well, they did it. Nancy’s Pelosi’s rogue lawmakers passed the anti-Christian, anti-health, anti-morality, anti-child “Equality Act” ( H.R. 5). And so now it heads to the Senate.
Where timid, compromised Republicans wait to offer amendments they can hide behind. We can hope Mitch McConnell never brings this bill to the floor.
But watchfulness is needed. Lindsey Graham (SC) is chairman of the Judiciary Committee. Keep an eye on Rob Portman (OH), Mitt Romney (UT), Richard Burr (NC), Susan Collins (ME), possibly Martha McSally (AZ) and of course, Lisa Murkowski (AK). There’s more than enough to worry about.
And Trump has stated he has reservations but has not committed to a veto.
But hold on. Maybe there are amendments that would make H.R. 5 (and its Senate version, S. 788) acceptable. Here’s a possible list:
1. Let’s see an amendment that upholds religious liberty-- “Nothing in this act will infringe upon the First Amendment religious freedom rights of any citizen, nor bar RFRA (the Religious Freedom Restoration Act) as a defense for a cause of action.”
The Human Rights Campaign along with Joe Biden call religious objections “a license to discriminate.” But let’s not worry about them as we remove a bit of totalitarianism from S. 788.
But let’s continue, because much, much more is needed.
2. In the spirit of truth over mythology, let’s amend the bill’s definitions with a crucial clarification: “Nothing in this bill is to imply that ‘lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer’ (‘LGBTQ’) behaviors are immutable like race....
The LGBT Juggernaut: Time for Christians to Face our Failure
Robert Oscar Lopez, The Stream
The dreaded moment is upon us. The Equality Act has passed out of committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. It will pass the House and move to the Senate. The White House (a house divided) has criticized the bill, but has not threatened to veto it. Christians who backed this president must contact him and demand that. Call your congressmen and your senators. If we stay silent, this may become law. And that would be the end of freedom for Christians in America...
“Public accommodation,” “federal funding,” “education,” and “anti-discrimination protection” … all nebulous words that regulators can expand to mean anything.
LGBT activists will demand access to children through school curricula. They will insist upon the right to groom them and coax them into identifying as gay or trans. In essence they lay claim to the right to prepare them to be their future sex partners. They will force people who experiment with gay sex to remain in the gay sex pool, via laws that ban any counseling to help them leave.
The Equality Act will force everyone to lie. We will have to tell innocent children that they have two daddies, when they do not. Then we will have to tell confused teenagers that they are girls when they are boys. We will have to tell miserable and suicidal homosexuals that their unhappiness derives from external homophobia. The solution to their unhappiness would actually be to stop engaging in homosexuality and pursue a normal heterosexual life.
